Hamilton, OH, June 27, 2024 – OPW® is proud to announce that its ACME Cryogenics product brand is celebrating its 55th anniversary this month. Headquartered in Allentown, PA, ACME Cryogenics specializes in providing mission-critical cryogenic products and services that have been formulated to facilitate the production, storage and distribution of cryogenic liquids and gases. In 2021, ACME Cryogenics was acquired by OPW and made a founding member of the new OPW® Clean Energy Solutions business unit.
“In its 55 years of existence, ACME Cryogenics has built a reputation as first-choice developer and supplier of cryogenics products and services by reliably recognizing and satisfying the needs of its customers as the industrial-gas market has broadened its growth globally,” said Chad Thomas, VP and GM of OPW CES. “That’s why we are so proud that ACME is able to mark its 55th anniversary as a significant member of the OPW Clean Energy Solutions family.”
ACME Cryogenics began life as H&B, a general machine shop that served a client base in the greater Lehigh Valley region in east-central Pennsylvania. The company changed its name to Acme Screw Machine Products in the early 1970s then turned its focus to the industrial-gas industry in 1977 when the Compressed Gas Association standardized a Liquid Transfer Fitting that Acme was developing.
After Rod Fink became the company’s sole owner, a series of subsequent acquisitions led to the development of new capabilities and solutions that skewed toward underserved segments within the cryogenic market. This included the creation of such new product lines as Cryogenic Vacuum-Jacketed Valves, Gas-Manifold Control Piping, Vacuum-Jacketed Piping, UHPO Delivery Systems and Cryogenic Vaporizers. The ultimate result of all of this innovative development activity was a switch to the name ACME Cryogenics, which resonates throughout the industry to this day.
The key to sustained success over more than five decades of operation for ACME has been its ability to turn technical expertise into solutions that dependably solve complex customer challenges. While the industry has evolved notably over the past decade, ACME has been able to stay ahead of the curve by consistently concentrating on safety, reliability and product quality that meets the evolving needs of the market and its customers.
Today, ACME has manufacturing operations at its Allentown, PA, headquarters, along with locations in Ball Ground, GA; Lonsdale, MN; and Oxnard, CA, with Field Services operations originating from six regional hubs. Those facilities will be pivotal as ACME Cryogenics fulfills its future plans to grow alongside the cryogenics industry in North America and globally, with special attention paid to industrial-gas markets and the growing Hydrogen Economy.
